Thread: Pace Boats

    Pace Boats

I remember an article after the Cleveland race quoting the lady who was Minister of Tourism (or something) for the Bahamas. She was talking about riding in the Pace Boat and going 130 MPH. I thought that was funny but it raises a question, how fast do Pace Boats go when starting a race? Is there a set speed for each class or do they just do it from experience? What about the parade laps, how fast are they going as they pass the fans?

During our races the pace boats never went much over 60 but usually go WOT from the front as soon as the start line is crossed.

Big fast V bottoms. I never saw a cat used as a pace boat.

We use anything from a 36 Apache, 388 Hustler or 42 Outerlimits.
