Default OT: Does anyone know anything about (YAHOO GROUPS)

I joinded a YAHOO GROUP today supposedly a yahoo based forum kinda like OSO only non boating related.
Well I checked my e mail today and found 50+ new messages, I looked and it seemed that every post (new topic and replies) was sent to me in the e-mail form
Is this how theese (GROUPS) work, by emailing you every single thing that gets posted?

Go to the group then click on "edit my membership", then click on "message delivery", then click "no email"

THRILLSEEKER,
As mentioned above you need to select not to receive email notification. I made that mistake and came home to 50 + emails.
This was posted on one of my boards. Thought it may be helpful.

Folks......YAHOO IS WATCHING US

Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo
Group
users around the net and see what you're doing - similar to cookies.
This 'tracking' is also performed outside of Yahoo, and the info is
used to benefit Yahoo.

Take a look at their updated privacy statement:

http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy/us/pixels/details.html

About half-way down the page, in the section "Outside the Yahoo!
Network", you'll see a little "click here" link that will let you
opt-out of their new method of snooping. I recommend doing this. Once
you have clicked that link, you are opted out. Notice the "Success"
message the top the next page. Be careful because on that page there
is a "Cancel Opt-out" button that, if clicked, will *undo** the
opt-out. This "opt-out" is, of course, browser dependent, not
connected to your Yahoo log-in ID. So the "opt-out", if you so
choose, must be done from every browser that you use. This is
explained on the privacy statement page.
