Tho I doubt a freshwater boat would ever have a problem it is still a good idea to replace them,Merc will pay for it.

In offshore blow boater forums they have suggested installing a Y connection in their raw water pickups so they can use the motor as a bilge pump. It is critical in a blow boat mainly because they can't "RUN FAST" to shore if they get a leak that their bilge pumps can't handle.
It's amazing to findout just how much water a motor pumps when it's running.

Would this sound stupid to put one in an offshore ICW powerboat?

Go to the following link. There are two exhaust configurations mentioned. One with water rail and one without water rail. If you click on them they will have detailed pictures of each. Can you let us know which configuration you have and what part is affected based on the pictures.
