Tow Vehicle Advise Needed

I have a 280 Baja that weighs about 7000 lbs. Current truck, 95 F-150, will not pull it out of the water.

Looking at a 95 F-350 7.3L power stroke dually with crew cab and posi track. The truck is in outstanding condition but has 155K for miles. Guy wants $11,000.

Your thoughts??

Are you going to just use it for towing? You don't want to lose reliability and you might with 155k miles. Just a thought.

BTW, what motor does your 150 have? Is it 4wd? I can't beleive that it won't pull it out of the water. Is the ramp steep?

Check out the Duramax Wins thread might be some insight in there for you. But be careful those Ford PSD guys are TOUGH!! Sounds like the guy just smoked his 2nd tranny with 155K and is going to trade it in for a new truck. :D

Suggest having a mechanic look at the engine. I just sold my 94 chevy 3500 HD Dually 6.4L Turbo Diesel extend cab. Sold for $13,000, but it only had 30K miles on it w/nice extras.

If the diesel was taken care of you will get a lot more miles on it. Of course like 'gmhdfan' said it may need a new tranny. But hey ...talk the guy down a bit and use that money to buy it.

Have you let the emergency brake off? jk Seriously, do you mean that the wheel spin is stopping you? That truck should move that boat unless the lack of positraction is allowing one wheel to spin. If people are around to get in the bed is it ok? The dually would certainly do the job, and I wouldn't worry about the milage if the history of the truck is known and it was maintained properly. Most diesel owners are anal about maintaining their stuff and the price sounds right. I pull my 6,000lb boat and trailer with a 280,000 mile 1/2 ton 'burban and have no problems. Good luck with your new truck.

im looking for a tow vehicle also and a friend of mine who is a mechanic told me to try and find a heavy half ton 4 x 4.

they have a gvwr of 8600 lbs instead of 7200.

my 2 cents.

If tires spinning is the only problem with your current truck, you can get a limited slip rearend for it. I priced one for my Cheerokee and it was around $600 installed.
