What Ratio with XZ Upper and Sportmaster Lower
would you get ?
I have XZ uppers with 1.36 Gears and want to try the new shorter sportmaster lowers. What ratio would I get with an out of the box bolt up?

Depends which of the sportmasters you use, they are avaiable in 15/19, 15/17 and 17/18 ratios. The overall ratio of your XZ (or any drive for that matter) is the upper ratio x the lower ratio.
A 1.36 drive = 29/27 (upper) x 19/15 (lower), so the possible ratios with your upper are 1.36, 1.217 and 1.137

Thanks for the help.

Is 19/15 stated correctly here as it differs from the way you stated above? What would the poss. ratio's be with 1.5 uppers?
Thanks.
Sonny

Oops,
Yes I reversed the numbers in the lower for the math to work the way I showed. It should have been 19/15, 17/15 and 18/17 in this case as both the upper and lower are reductions.
A 1.5 XZ has a 32/27 upper , possible ratios are 1.5, 1.343 & 1.254
Don't forget that there is also a 30/23 upper, the resulting 1.65 ratio can be worth a few MPH on some boats but it puts a greater torque load on the lower unit
