Default OT: converting asf files, techs help a brotha out.

I have a ton of CDR's with movies burned on them.....most of which are in .asf format. I'm wanting to try to convert these to vcd or something that I can watch on my home dvd player. Have any of you done this, is there an easy way?

ASF is a streaming media file and they are not the easiest format to convert. You will usually have to convert the audio and video segments separately. To convert ASF files to VCD, SVCD, XVCD or XSVCD (all are based on MPEG-1) take a look at this site:

Good Luck,

Do yo have a DVD burner or are you trying to convert to a CD-R with a format that your DVD will recognize?

NO dvd burner......too pricey for me right now. I'm trying to burn to a CD-R and then a format so my dvd player will recognize it. Mostly I have asf files but I can always download other kinds...I'm just wanting a format that is easy to convert so I can play it on my home dvd player.

It is going to depend on your DVD player. Not all DVD players will play CD-Rs. If yours does than you will need to convert to VCD format. The more popular formats that have converters will be non streaming such as .mpg. The software from NERO is cheap and works well. The website listed earlier has a newbie section that will cover the basics in understandable language.
