Question Marina Gas. Why. . . . . . .

Why is it that marinas will not / do not offer 87 Octane gasoline?

The engine manufacturers recommend 87 Octane.
That grade of gas would also lower the price a few cents too.
But every marina I've ever been to, only has either 89 or 92 octane gas.

Any ideas???????

The idea is that 87 octane boats can burn 92. But 92 boats can’t run 87.

i think its because its a better comprimise for most people.....yea you may be able to run the 87 in your brand new EFI engine....but what about the poor guy who has the 1985 carb engine....and plus its 95+ outside......85% humidity....and hasnt had the engine tuned up since day one cause he's never had a problem with it before!!! 87 octane may be recomended by the engine builder but thats not to say it will run best on it.

Just my thoughts...

I'd like to know myself...The same goes for our marina and I'm forced to buy 89.

Maybe it has something to do with octane degredation with time.

It is in Va. You have to send off to the DMV for a refund. I just got mine a few weeks ago, $ 480.00!!!

I thought the tax refund worked for IL, but I was wrong. They declined my paper work. Apparently pleasure boating doesn't count. So what roads am I using with the boat that the 'boat' gas tax is paying for.

Woah, you have 92?? We have 90, but in 70 degree with low humidity the stock 4.3 will be pinging when reved to 4k in no wake. It is BP......
