Now I like hand guns but am not a expert on them. So here's a question.
I alway's was under the impression that .50 cal was the biggest but a friend has a .454 Cassul and told me that was the king of the ranges at the moment.
This my be dumb but isn't .50 bigger than .454 ?

You are correct in that th e.50 is larger in caliper however it doesn't relate to the muzzle energy. It is simply the daimeter of the bullet. The difference is 5/100'ths of an inch. Although the .454 is a great gun I prefer my Thompson Contender 308...now that will leave a mark!

The 50 cal. is a larger diameter round. The 454 Cassul is a longer cartridge there for allowing more powder and more velocity.

I am a HUGE fan of large cal. guns. I have a 50 cal Dessert Eagle, 454 Taurus Cassul and a Dan Wesson 445 Super Mag. The Dan Wesson is with out question the biggest hand full to deal with. It makes the 50 and the Cassul seem silly actually. The over all length of the round is 2"!!!!! When I light that thing off at the range LOOK OUT The only problem that I have had is that it is SO powerfull that the cyliner seems to go out of time.

I have a 45-70 contender ,,454 is bad though I wish I had a 6 shot 45-70 except after the second shot who ever you were shooting at would be deaf or scared todeath as well as you

It shoots very well and I have had ZERO problems with it. The accuracy is good after you get used to shooting it. It is lighter then my Dan Wesson so it does rise a little when you fire it. The Dan Wesson comes more back at you. Kind of hard to explain but that is what I have noticed. I like to shoot the Dan Wesson more as it is a MUCH more accurate gun but it is expensive to shoot at 2.50 each time you pull the trigger!!!

My range is not too happy when people shoot those big guns. They say the concussion makes the mortor fall out of the cinderblocks.

A .454 sounds like cannon going off even with the muffs on.

I think I'll stick with my Kimber .45.
