What's the Story on Cobra Cats?

Just looking for a brief background on the Cobra Cats of the 90's. How well were they built?

dredge - I'll try to give you the true scoop on mine!

I've had mine for one full season now and have been completely satisfied with it. Yes - I still hope to move up to a Skater some day, but all in good time.

My boat is fully balsa cored and seem to be built strong. The deck is through bolted and fiberglassed to the hull. My boat is gelcoated solid white with vinyl graphics. The gelcoating could have been better as there are a couple thin spots, but I doubt anyone would ever notice them unless I point them out.

Mine is a '95 model with about 200 hours. It has no stress cracks anywhere and still looks and runs like absolutely brand new. Probably due to the past owners care as much as the manufacturer. The interior is also like new. It uses a fiberglass enclosed wood floor that is solid as a rock. The dash did shake some in the rough stuff but two aluminum braces underneath solved that.

Mine was factory rigged with and still has twin 500HP's with 1.36 Bravo's. I've seen a best of 96 on GPS, but have been cleaning up the water intakes, outdrives, and removing some weight. Hopefully with the right props and rotation I'll see 100 this summer.

The boat handles great in anything I've been in. Only problem is with the twins the CG is too far aft. I'm working on moving some weight forward now. Like most cats it wants to lean outside in slow to medium speed turns - you get used to controlling it and it'is no big deal.

For the $$$'s I think I stole the boat and wouldn't change a thing in my decision. It's a great way to get into a 30' cat that will blow the doors of most other boats in most conditions. If you want to see some pictures of mine go to my site:

Any other questions, feel free to ask!

Good Luck!

Jeff
