It was 90 or 91 Joe broke his trim rams an still took first. I was there in my 88 stryker an still have the vcr tape of Joe standing it up one the first leg of the first lap. Great race.

That's un-believable. I've spent several hours with Smitty in their truck talking shop and all I heard was that he was an engine builder that had to go in the boat to show how to run the motors properly... next thing you know... he became Smitty the racer.
