f350- Short or long bed

I am getting ready to order my truck and I currently have an 02 f-350 crew cab long bed that I am passing to one of my employees. This thing is like driving a u-boat. I tow my 37 probably 12 times a year and I origionally got the long bed for the extended wheel base but it is a pain in the azz to park and move around. I was considering getting the same truck but with the short bed. How much of a difference do you think there is in having the extra length for towing and what do you think of the crew cab with the shorter bed?

If you get the SB, go ahead and add Airbags to it. It will make up for the stability you 'lose', if any, over the longbed.

The short bed was made just for the people that just tow. it will tow more than the long bed I think it say's 600# more. The hot setup is short bed with a 5 wheel. If you are only pulling a 37AT the 250 will do fine, I am on my 3 powerstroke and love them, I allways get the 350 long bed but I need to put stuff in the back and my sled is about 16,000# with the trailer and gased up.I see no reason For an extra cab truck $1500 more and only 10 inch's longer and you can put full size people in. If you don't need a 4x4 or want it a 2x4 turn's a lot sharper and tow's even more. I worked at ford for 5 years in the truck dept.

Think about it..

A HD pickup with a short bed? Yes I know they make them.
Let's think some more.. A HD pickup, with a short bed?

Drive 'em both. There isn't much of a difference.

One more time.
A HD pickup, with a short box? Hmmm.

You may want to consider trading your 37 for a 18'. Much easier to dock, and tow. Then you could just buy an Explorer.. and that's even easier to park.

I have a 2000 250 4x4 crew with Powerstroke short box

Tows great!

You might want to wait on the 6.0 powerstroke, it has 100 more HP but they rev it a 1000 more rpm to get it, only a few more ft.of torq.I don't work at Ford anymore but my buddy's that do said it's nice but it doesn't tow as well as the 7.3 they say the power isn't where you need it. If you can find one with a 7.3 you can get a great deal.My brother just picked up a loaded 03 with 7.3 for 35,500 out the door.

Wow, Lapse that is better than I am getting quoted. Where does your bro live? maybe I can talk to the same salesperson???
When you say loaded.....

I actually prefer the 7.3 anyway. I wind up having boot chip it and I get the increased tourqe anyway...;) :D

I am in northern va so is my brother. He got his from Koons Ford. His is a 7.3 250 long bed 4x4 larait crew cab with every opp. but the sun roof. Now it took him about 8 days to get the deal he wanted, they started at 44,000 he 35,500 showed them the cash and didn't budge, they called him everyday making offers till he told them don't call me again till it's 35,500 three days went by before they called and told him to bring his $$.That was about a month ago and the last 7.3 they had.
I would use the hypertech powerprogramer and the airaid air box.I have a 00 350 4x4 drw and get 24mpg empty hwy and 17 mpg pulling a 42 sonic @75-85 hwy. It was about 15 and 9 stock.
