At the T.O.P.P.S. meeting this past weekend Elain Motl(sp?) told us that it was about 99.5% for sure the race would not take place this year. The seawall and pit area is under construction and parking lots are full of equipment and such and government buidings are fenced in the area. THe high cost of gas for travel, politics nationally and in the race community and such had the big sponsors convinced that the timing is not right and it would be a loosing deal for everyone involved. There could be a slight chance late in season if another event cancels and everything is built and finished in Corpus. I'd bet no racing this year. And it was going to be a couple of weeks after Marathon ,so it would be like a month of races. Shucks! Darn it! CRAP!!!!

They need to keep the race, it is one of the best on the series. If they need to move it to the end of the season like they did last year, then that is what they need to do.

This is very bad news!!!
The closest thing to a "home" race I could get, and now it looks like it won't happen.
Is there anything that can be done to help resurrect the race?

Keep praying for later in the season. Elaine did say that the race is not going away permanently - just this year. I know she'll do everything she can to make it happen. I was really looking forward to some racing soon, too.

Corpus has always been my favorite place to race. Elaine always does an outstanding job and I know if it can be done this year she is one that can make it happen. If anyone happens to speak with her please tell her Garry from Tellium says "HI".

Suck a shame that you can't get the "who's who" in Galveston to step up to the plate. I always like going down to South Padre years ago. The water is usually big there...but then they cancel the race for that very reason..of well!
