How big can a SBC be streeeetched?

Just read the article in this months Car and Driver about Dick Guldstrand working over a 50th anniversary vette. He stroked it 4.0 and bored it 4.1 to make 422 Cu In. They call it a 427. WOW But don't they usually use a de-stroked BBC to achieve a 427? They claim 500 BHP and 520 Twist. A pair in a 30 footer would be sweeeet. Whats your thoughts.

Just yesterday I saw a thing on Hot Rod TV where they had a 454 inch smallblock chevy.

I saw a build up a few years back in Hot Rod a 500ci small block. they had to offset bore the block. I think it was Reher Morision made alittle over 1000hp.the rpm was around 8800 . the bore was over squar so prob one of those dyno test mules just for the mag.One of my buddys thats running the street car shootouts is running a 478ci small block ,Rockett block made 780 hp.plus a few stages of nos.To get the power your talking about its going to be above 6000rpm.

Bill Mitchell racing engines make a kit for a 427 small block.

454 with a stock block is a major stretch. However, I believe that Merlin has a block that makes this more feasible.
