Alarm systems

I want to put some type of alarm system on my boat because it sits outside (on the trailer) and last year someone helped themselves to my whole stereo system. I'm wondering what types of alarms people have had good luck with and how they are being powered.

I installed a few. It had a plunger in one of the canvas snaps. We also put a pole with a Stobe in the poleholder and if it got pulled out it would trip the siren.

Its all low volatge and runs off the main batteries.

It's a pain in the A## to wire and do it neatly. The on/off switch was magnetic and placed in a certain spot, so to shut it off you held a magnet against the hull where the interior switch is placed.

Like I said, this was a while ago.

I put an alarm system in my boat last year. Viper 300 with a DEI 508D motion sensor.

It pretty cool to walk away from your boat, chirp the alarm, and have it protected (like a convertable). The toughest part was installing the motion sensor, as it needs to be installed down the centerline of the floor, facing in a certain direction.

Ignition kill, flashing lights, siren in the engine compartment (near the vents)...pretty straightforward. Works well on the trailer or the water (beach, dock).

I have wondered about putting a alarm on the boat?? Reasons vary from protecting boat/stereo to keeping younger kids and stupid adults from raiding coolers when you are away socializing? Not a huge problem, but would be funny as chit to see an alarm go off when some one is raiding the cooler:p
