EMT, the best part was being able to volunteer at the offshore races and be on the course with a front row seat!

I am a career guy, used to be a volly. Started in 79.............Steve new guys suck!!! Now they want to hire people right out of college with degrees. They don't know sh@t!!! They have no work ethic and think they know everything. I'd rather we hire roughin carpenters or mechanics or something.........people that can think on their feet. Then send them to school.

I'll get off my soap box now.

Although I am only 31 and have a relatively short tenure as a FF, I agree with you guys about attitudes. I HATE them! Everyone is ont eh same team! Unfortunately you have guys that want all the attention and to be hero's. Well as we know in the fire service HERO's DIE! I also tell EVERYONE you check your attitude at the door or don't ride the truck. If you can't handle it, stay back at the station. I consider myself very well versed, but if someone has a better idea I am ALL EARS on the fire ground. We are all there to do a job and that is to help and protect and NO ONE is above needing or getting help, regardless of the color of the helmet. There so often seems to be animosity between paid and volunteers too. I hate that ****! Anyway, to all my fellow fire fighters and OSO brothers and sisters, be safe and watch your partners back! Safety NEVER takes a HOLIDAY!

I too started out as a volunteer. Two years later I left the GM dealership technician gig, took an $11k per year cut in pay and became a full time firefighter/EMT with Shawnee.
Over 12 years on the job, I've never regretted that move.

Sydwayz,
Beautiful truck !!!
ours is a 1000gal / 1500gpm E-ONE tanker pumper.
