who is into inboard hydro`s
A buddy of mine is upgrading his ride and has a really cool 5 litre Staudacher Hydro, 305 chev and it runs @100 mph. I`ve spent many hours playing in this boat and it`s a real trip. The acceleration from 60-100 is indescribable. He`d like to move it fast for $7800 including a custom trailer.
I`ll post some pics later today Kurt |
I used to Crew on a few different Grand Prix Inboard Hyros back in the 80's & 90's Jimmy King had two boats that my Dad and I worked on. The Orange Crush and the Yellow Batten Performance that came to an untimely demise at Valleyfield. Also Jimmy Drove Roger Mahans GP-2 out Of Lake Hopatcong NJ. A beautiful Hemi Powered Jamie Auld Built Boat. Interest in the GP class almost Died out .I have not been to Detroit since 2001 .

Rob,
My buddy is buying an old Grand Prix 7 litre. I`ll find out the race name today. The 5 litre was the "Instigator" We used to look forward to the races at Moore Dam in Littleton NH and Lowell MA on the Merrimack river. It was the best form of boat racing as far a being a spectator! Kurt |
I used to race inboard (Jersey skiffs) with these guys. 5 liter hydros are awesome to watch. Sounds like a fun toy.

You must remember our boats then. "Fantasy" and " Blind Crippled and Crazy" We raced 280, 5 litre and GP classes mostly in the 70's and early eighties. I remember "Orange Crush" well. Also lost a good friend and our driver at Valleyfield, Joe Gimbroni.

I'm from the Tonwanda area. Knew all those boats. We still run hydros here. New Joe real well. Howie Benns, Don Turner, Mike Endres (Orange Crush) and some of the guys are still around but not racing. I ran the old 280 class (now 5L), Sassy Jane. It was a Farmer Hull with a 283 in it. Won a few race with it!
