Rik, up to what HP/TQ can a ASD8 handle vs a #6, both with the same Bam DrySump Cyborg 1550 trannies. Thanks Jeff

I'm not sure of what Mercury's ratings are and that information would best come from them.

The ASD8-6 Drive Units are rated for applications up to 1,500 hp. These are the same ones that David Scott has on the 46' Skater "Barcadi" that runs in SBI. I do not know the HP of those engines though.

i think the 46 was running 1350 HP in race trim....

Both will take alot more than the tranny.

I guess its different than like a out drive that is trying to leverage the boat forward by the prop thats a good bit
below the center line of the crank shaft..it seems to me that the Arnison just pushes the hull forward . Would this be the reason for the faster speed with them??

Rik am I thinking this correctly?

In essence yes. The lower drag and less parasitic loss of hp in the drive line makes a difference as well.

Here is a informative article on surface propulsion theory.

Kind of long winded but sounds good :D http://www.simplicity-marine.com/surfprop.htm

Forget the drives, Why did you get a Spectre instead of a Motion?? Just Kidding!! Before I went with the #6's, I was seriously considering ASD-6 Arnesons to replace my Bravos, Then we decided to go with big power and realised the ASD-6 would probably be too small. I would love to know how the Arnesons work out for you. Good luck

Yep, that's Tony's boat. He beats that thing to death and has no problems with the drives. That's got to be one of the only boats on the Delta that never loses a drive. I know he's real happy with the way it turned out and performs. I think he tops out at 105? Not bad for a big heavy pig! :D
