I've been looking for info too. Can't find anything else since the announcement.
Wonder if the boiler explosion on the old SS France (now S/S Norway) stalled their plans? |
It's still sitting down the same dock along Delaware ave in Philly. They haven't touched it as of yet.

Anyone know how Cantor became owner? He's a local NJ guy from Rumson, he's into fishing boats.

When she was in VA my and a guy from my ship used to go crabbing right next to her...82 83 or so. She didn't look so bad then.
|
Norwegian Cruise Lines Owns it now. It's trashed inside and out. It was stripped inside right down to the beams. there is nothing left to salvage inside. I'd love to see the engines.
|
Cantor had plans to convert the ship to a hotel. I'd much rather see her sail again.

Got this earlier today. It's about an article that ran in the New York Times the other day regarding the new Queen Mary 2. Apparently, there was no mention of the United States in that article.
See the web links at the bottom of the page. They lead to the major supporting Foundation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Friends and Supporters: It's short and sweet and it's in The New York Times. The S.S. United States Foundation's campaign strategy to get the attention of the editors of The New York Times has proven successful. Friday, I received a call from an editor at the Times who informed me that the venerable newspaper had received so many letters in response to their editorial "A New Queen" from members and supporters of the S.S. United States Foundation that they were going to run my letter reminding their 5 million plus readers of the historic importance of the Big U. See link: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/12/opinion/L12SHIP.html Needless to say, getting the attention of the editors of The New York Times is no easy task--but we did it! Since 1999, the S.S. United States Foundation has been featured in four separate articles in the National Section of the Times (two of them front page placements). This is the first time the editorial board has acknowledged the foundation. Another day in S.S. United States Foundation History: The foundation's last successful editorial board campaign resulted in the publishing of 27 letters to the editor in The Philadelphia Daily News and a complete about-face by the editorial board of that daily newspaper. Basically, there has been very little news since April 2003. |
we should book an OSO cruise if it ever sails! :)
