We just bought a new Excursion with the 6.0 and like Semper Fi said the motor and new 5 speed auto are much better than the 7.3 IMO. I had a 99 F-250 and a 02 F-350 with the 7.3 and I like the new motor much better.

We towed our Cig with it last weekend to Havasu (300 miles) and the thing had power to spare. It felt liked a chipped 7.3 but with a much better tranny. The tow haul mode works really well also and will actually downshift going down hills when you start to brake.

The suspension could use some bags and sway bars though to stiffen it up a bit. With a lighter load it would probably be ok, but you Hustler is probably close to our TG. Good luck.

Havasu Cig -

Thanks for the info. I'm comparing everything and will probably purchase in the next day or two.

Thanks for your help.

Here's a picture of my boat taken back in the winter. I have some in-water pics on my other computer. I will transfer them and post them later.

It won't let me post the picture... It says the file is too large. Any idea if/how to reduce the size of it? If not, send my your e-mail and I will send it to you.
388Hustler,
I like the new 6.0/ tranny package that I just purchaed the new Excursion today and I'm waiting for it to come in. I drove HavasuCig's (and Mrs. HavasuCig's) new Excursion 6.0 and liked it so much, I had to get one for myself!! you can email me a pics to:

If anyone is interested I have a 2001 Excursion Limited fully equipped with the 7.3L Powerstroke for sale. It is an awesome machine. I've only used it as a family vehicle and it has 30,000 miles on it none of it towing and most of it was highway trip miles. It gets 23 MPG on the road and 18 MPG around town if driven sensibly. Just can't afford to keep an extra vehicle that is not being used. Color is Burgandy with saddle leather interior.

HelmPilot:

I am absolutely flabergasted. I get 14.5 mpg on the highway. Please tell me what you are doing to get 23 !!!!!

Question

I own a 2000 PSD Excursion and have put over 30K miles on it- also know a lot of others with 7.3 PSD X's, and frequent the dieselstop website with regularity.
I have not, nor do I know anyone, or read about anyone that is getting 20 mpg with this 4 ton behemoth regardless of how or where it is driven (until now). Close, maybe, but not 20, even with a lot of mods. Driven at 75+ on the highway, no headwind, and flat ground, will net me 16.5 + or - , and maybe 12 pulling a 28' Active Thunder. It's got the power for sure (it's a better tow vehicle than the F250 V-10 I had), but it's never going to see those mileage numbers!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I bought a 2003 Excursion with the 7.3 diesel. It's a white Eddie Bauer model. I like it a lot so far. As for the mileage, it appears to get about 17 or so on the highway and about 14 around town (if the computerized mileage readings are accurate).

Semper Fi - I e-mailed a pic of my Hustler to you.

Semper Fi,
Congrats to you on your new purchase as well. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for the compliment on my boat. Let me know when you get in the market for a Hustler and I will try to help you out, if I can.
