What's best route to trailer through Chicago. . .

. . . from Indiana to Milwaukee pulling a 35' trailer, probably during the week.

Do not go through downtown! If you are going to Milwaukee stay on 294. I assume you are comming up 65 to 80/94?

Comming up 65 to whatever works best to get to 94 in WI.

If you were driving through downtown between say 10am and 2pm you should be ok with traffic....otherwise i would take 294 like Russ said.....but then again theres construction on parts here and there so its a gamble either way!

If it's really early, you'd be OK through the loop. But absolutly avoid it all other times! It's a white knuckle, high pucker ride! There will also be a series of toll north of the city. The cheapest gas is just before you get to Illinois. Do not buy gas until you get back in Wisconsin. Around Chicago, you'll be paying through the nose.

I drug my 48' race car trailer downtown and it was fine

Hummmm, maybe I should just put in at Hammond and boat up to Racine? (If only that would work logistically).

If you go at rush-hour there will be some traffic no matter which way you go. I would recommend 294. It is a longer distance, but it will definately be faster. Warning - if your boat is more than 9'6" wide you should go through the city. You will not easily fit through the toll booths!

Chicago is fine unless you are trying to go through between 7 and 9 AM or 4 to 6 PM.

I drive from the northwest burbs back and forth to Michigan all summer. Stay off the skyway and away from downtown. Follow 94 to 294 (the tristate). It looks much shorter to take the skyway but Ive run it both ways on GPS and the Skyway saves you 4 miles. Not worth going into the city for.
Have a safe trip :)
