You won't benefit as much from a "bore notch" job on a 502 as much as you would on a 454. The 454 has smaller cylinders, therefore a bore notch would be more beneficial. Basically it unshrouds the valves and creates better air flow from the head into the cylinder---JimV has tested this on the dyno, and has shown to be worth about a 30hp/torque gain.
