Outboarders: What's Your Oil Ratio?
I have 1997 Merc 2.5 EFI Offshores. I had always ran @ 32:1
I see Merc showing 40:1 for the latest 2.5s
What's your mix???

With the 2.5's we always ran 30:1 in them. Especially if you are going to be turning them up at high RPSM's for a while.

I always ran 36:1 (1.5 times a 50:1 ratio). I ran cheap crap oil for recreational running, and Dirtbike oil (Golden Spectro) for dragracing - all at 36:1. Near 9000 rpm thru the lights.

32:1 Klotz Super Techniplate
The motor is a 1956 60ci Mark75 with the heads cut off and welded back on short.........the compression ratio is doubled, so I run AV gas with a little extra lead. The actual combustion chambers are reshaped (a little more hemi than the original wafer shape) and I think I can bump the compression up a little more with that gas---that would be next winter's project.
Next race: Denton, MD June 14 & 15
Denton is an extra short course.......2 quarter mile straights plus the turns.........I can only get about 80mph there 'cuz the straights are so short and I gotta slow down to a little under 50 on the turns (in order to stay out of the grass; if I hit the weeds you can tease me about driving a weedeater fer sure.........man that stuff really slows you down)
Two weeks after that (June 28 & 29): Sharptown, MD
(near Salisbury....just off the path to Ocean City, MD)
1 1/3 mile course at Sharptown........more like 95mph.........I can wing the turns about 70mph there. Sharptown's obstacle: a bridge
In order to get a nice long run up to our starting clock we start thru the bridge. Seeing the starting clock thru the bridge is like looking thru binoculars while holding them at arm's length from your face. Once the race is started we scramble to the first turn and come back to the bridge...........at 95mph..........and then turn left just before we get to it

I swear by AMSOIL. I run it 50:1 with absolutely NO PROBLEMS, no CARBON, and I have NEVER fouled a plug. In fact last season I never had to change the plugs but I did just for the hell of it. Charlie Tesauro runs it in his 28 Skater and beats the livin' snot out the boat spinnin' the motors at 9,000. Diamond pulled them apart this winter and teh original hash marks were still in the cylinder walls. I use the AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing 2 Cycle Oil. I am a dealer and can give the info to become a dealer yourself. It is $24 per gallon shipped to your door.

That was exactly what I used to do when racing the 13 Bullet. With the small engines it worked out really great. For whatever reason, I eventually got away from Amsoil as I got into the Larger Mercs. It was probably due to availability as well. Currently I am running..... oops

but I am at 32:1. Calculations kept simple! 32 gals of gas to 1 gal of oil...
