Boating in colorado?!?!?!
 

I have a 38' Powerquest with 2-525's.

Is there anywhere in Colorado I can go boating???

If not, where is the closest lake I can go to?

thinking about taking a trip...

Michael- welcome to the board. You didn't say where in Colorado you were located. I've been to Navajo Lake in southern CO-Northern NM. There are a few other lakes in southern CO, one just east of Pueblo, don't remember the name though. Again Welcome!

If I am going to Denver..what lakes can I go to and how many hour drive is it??

We are heading to Lake Powell July 3-7.

How far is Lake owell from Denver and can you take a 38' boat there?

I can't think of any lakes in the Denver area large enough for you. There is a small lake in the area of Colorado Springs next to the Olympic training camp, but is waaay too small for you. Are you South or North of Denver? ToddW has the right idea-Powell is wonderful

I will be in South Denver... I need to know places that are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 hours from Denver... if longer than that, let me know..

Believe me, there is no lake anywhere near Denver for a boat that size. Your best bet is to take the advise above and head to lake powell. Its about an 8 hour drive from denver to bullfrog bay. To get there you will have to cross some pretty good mountain passes, but it will be well worth the trip. Hope this helps.

From North Denver:

Flaming Gorge: 6.5 hr. drive, all interstate, 90 miles long, Utah and Wyoming, pretty (hard to drive to mountains), elevation 6,000

Pueblo, CO: 2.5 hrs., 15 miles, 5-8 miles wide, ele: 3500 ft Horsetooth, CO: 1.5 hrs., 7 miles long, 3 miles wide, pretty, 5200 ft.

Glendo, Wyoming: 4 hrs., 17-20 miles long, pretty, 4800 ft.

Lake Powell, Utah/Arizona: 7.5-8 hrs., 200 miles long, (hard to drive to mountains), 3500 ft

McConahay, Nebraska, not as pretty, 22 miles long, 4 hrs., 3600 ft.

Carter Lake, 1 hour north of Denver, 4 miles long, 2 miles wide, pretty, 5300 ft.

Havasu, 17 hours, Arizona/CA, 300 ft.

John Martin Lake, CO, 3.5-4 hrs., large lake, 6-7,000 feet elevation!!

All the lakes you have mentioned are good, however, your boat will be by far the biggest on the water.

Most all the lakes mentioned will work however, they will be very small for a boat your size. Once again your best bets would be Powell, McConahay, and Havasu. The rest are pretty small. Keep in mind a-lot of the lakes mentioned are considered high altitude lakes and you may have some adjustments to make to get your performance back.

My friend had an old 32' sea ray pachanga (sp) that we used quite a bit, and it just seemed way to large around here. By the time you get up and running you need to back down and make a turn.

Also many of the lakes have strict enforced on speed and directions your allowed to go. You must go in a large circle. Its a joke.
