Default Insurance - Early 30's with a 28' ride - HELP!

Who is your insurance through and what do you pay? How about deductibles? I have found that age makes a huge difference...

Driving record is real clean....funny because my buddy is 38 and has a 28' Sunsation and he got $820. I was quoted $1200 with all the same info but age 32.

I don't think it is age so much as experience......and speed. 70mph seems to be the magic number. If you are under that you should be able to get insurance from any of the big boys for around $6 - 800. Over 70 and you can add a grand or more to that! I have two friends I grew up boating with. One writes for nationwide and insured my Baja 272 for abour $650. The other is an independent. Neither would touch my PQ 340.

GLH, sounds like you are paying too much. Progressive quoted me $1400 up to 70mph. When I told the agent that my boat is capable of 80 (on a perfect day) she damn near hung the phone up on me!

I do business with Sy Goldberg at Total Dollar. Great coverage, but the deductible sucks. 2% of agreed value.

State Farm 2003 Pantera 28, 575 sci 75mph $680

Old boat 1995 Fountain 27, 454mag 385hp 66mph $465

Never a whine, whimper or sneeze from my agent in Iowa about a performance boat nor my new agent in Missouri. I'm 38 and haven't had an at fault accident in 18 years a only 2 speeding tickets in my life, 1 of which was dropped by going to the local cop class.

BTW your credit score has at least as much or more to do with the cost of your insurance than your driving record does.

I believe that your agent has a lot to do with it. They covered my Stingray, then my Fountain then the Pantera and I was very explicit with the agent each time because I had heard similar stories about underwriters dropping coverage. Both my agents were long time guys in the business and State Farm also has all my other vehicles, my house and an umbrella policy.

that is right, the agent can make are break the deal, i went with PMA out of florida, I live in a high risk area so almost no one would cover me, [Gulf coast] the other one that would cover my boat was progressive, I had called Sy but he could not cover my area, some places have a chart that tells the speed of the boat, thats what happened to me, 29 outlaw with 454 mag's chart says 73 so i pay 1700 a year, ouch, excellent credit score, good driving record and no claims, age was 38 at the time, a friend bought a B.C.D. mach tunnel boat new over 100mph and pays 5800 a year, what a deal, thats why I bought a V hull
