Default OT: The Weirdo's on Ebay

I found a 30' Enclosed trailer on ebay. Said right in the ad that the reserves was $4200 (way below value) and to email for a "Buy it now" price. So I emailed and they told me the price to buy it was $4200. Keep in mind in the ad it said the trailer is in Ft. Lauderdale. The seller has a feedback of 1187 but they only sell $2 - $10 items. Here is the email transcript (the first message is at the bottom and read up):

Casey,

I kept my word and I stopped the auction for you.But
you didn't keep your word.I told you very clear that
you have to wait me until 26th for pick up because
there is nobody home to wait you and the payment must
be sent to Germany with western union.I have 1186
feedback and I'm a very serious seller. But you waisted
my time for nothing and you didn't keep your word. For
this our deal is off.

Hello,

Since I have friends in Ft. Lauderdale they will be picking up the
trailer for me. What is the address and directions
to the location of the trailer. If it is alright with you they will be
paying cash for the trailer. My friend owns a large aviation company in Miami and will ship it to me free of charge. Let me know ASAP!!

Thanks!!

I will buy it for $4200 done deal. Can you tell me what condition the trailer is in on a scale of 1 to 10. Any dents, etc.. How much is
shipping the trailer??? I have no problem paying the western union fees. I have friends in your area to help me out with whatever I need. In a show of good faith I would appreciate it if
you would take the item off ebay. Thanks!! If you have a number in Germany let me know and I will call you. I have contacted forward air and they said the only way of shipping it would be to crate it (it is too big for that!!) so we will figure something else out. Look forward to hearing back from you!!

You can buy it now for $4200.

I'm in Germany with my work until 26th and the payment must be sent here with western union money transfer.

I will ship it with forwardair(check the nearest
forwardair location on their site- www.forwardair.com
).The shipping will be started on 27th.Transit time=3-4 days. I will pay the shipping and you will pay the western union fee. Fair deal!

But if you are able to pick it up next week than the
western union fee will be included in the price.

Let me know

I wouldn't Western Union any money.

There is no listing for Hantke, Ladislav in the Frankfurt/Main phonebook:

http://www.telefonbuch.vhm.de/home.h...1&lop=AND&pc2=

The address is very suspicious also. It's smack ouside of the main train station, next door to the main post office (hence "Poststr.")

It is familiar to some bad ebay scams I've heard of that ask for the money to be sent to Europe... What is strange is that this person has a history on ebay with a lot of sales and positive feedback... typically the fraud cases, the seller didn't have much history of selling... I'd tell him to set a date for a meet with cash to exchange and see what he says.... says he'll back in a few days..... The FUNNY part is with the determination to have the money sent to Germany.... I wouldn't do that... Good luck... Too dammed many scam artists on ebay... I've been there and there isn't anything you can do about it......

Been there done that on 24'' wheels and tires, the guy is in UK with 0 feedback and starts several new auctions every sunday under new names, and insists on western union and will not do COD, and don't even have the items, after a series of emails when he figured out I new, He told me to call his office at 1800-fraud or 1800-biteme, I turned him in and got him kicked off at least 10 times and got tired of wasting my time

If you follow the praises, they are all from people who are sellers with an equal number of praises from more sellers with more praises from more sellers. After a while, the comments sound very much alike. And only a lunatic would offer free freight - by air, no less - on a friggin TRAILER to an unknown address.

If it walks like a duck ...

never western Union anything unless you know this person
as a friend stay away from the overseas stuff 90% of it is fraud.
Many build up a high rating on ebay then once they do that they start a bunch of high dollar auctions with the money transfer crap.
just sticks out like a sore thumb.
they pull down some real low dollar auctions to build it up
then put 10-20 large ones with big numbers
they get away with 1000s and its all non traceable.

yea, there is a guy doing the same thing with motorcycles. ends the auction early, and wants western union to an overseas address. the reason i didn't trust him was because he said that he would pay for the shipping. well i looked up shipping, and the cost was more than the bike was worth.

alot of times if people have alot of positive feedback and are running a scam, it turns out that thier account was "hacked", and someone is using the screen name of someone with good feedback to sell non-existing items. this happened to a friends mom on ebay who had alot of feedback, and went on vacation for a couple weeks....she came back and found her account to be hacked into, and someone sold 3 different $5000 items, and had the money wired overseas.

I wrote back bs'ing a little for pity and this is what she wrote. (again read from bottom up)

My last offer for you is:I accept half of payment
today with western union and full balance at pick up.I
gave you all my info for transfer.
If I will not receive the info about your transfer
today than I will allow to another buyer to start the
procedures for payment.

Ladis,

I realize your are a serious seller and I am a very
very serious buyer
that has CASH!! I have bought many high priced items
off ebay before
(My truck cost $75,000). I cannot justify sending
$4200 to Germany
without ever talking to you on the phone or meeting
you or seeing the
trailer. I looked at the Items you usually sell and
they are between
$2.00 to $20.00. I am a very Christian person who is
very honest and
we really need this trailer, I am buying it with the
church's money. I
can give you a deposit. And the day you get back in
town I can have
someone at your place with the cash. If you could at
least give me an
address to where the trailer is to see the trailer,
I would feel alot
more comfortable. My friends in Florida are also
very Christian and
trustworthy and I would trust them with anything I
own.
If I lose this money I have 200+ people I have to
answer to. Please do
not cancel this deal. We can complete it the day you
get back in town.
