Cool Catalina Ski Race Finish

The race got off nearly on time in good visability, but reportedly ugly water. Todd Haig behind Jack Lynch's Fountain was first to the island with Stephen Robertson behind LeRoy Scheider's Velocity next, then Martie Wells behind Randy Davis Fountain third. But at the finish it was Martie just a few seconds ahead of Todd, and Robertson was a few minutes back in third. First woman was Tracy Graziano behind Tom Buckles Scarab. No major records were broken this year, however there was a lot of DNF's...

Lets hear from the DMAN and get his story

No Gdftha ... that was another spectator boat .... but, the 2nd place boat was within 10-15 seconds. It seemed like third didn't come in for another 10+ minutes.

Once again, the race was great. Loud start and drag race finish. It never gets old watching two boats make the final turn and throttle up for the last drag with two completly worn out skiers holding on for dear life at the Finish line. There were enough SCOPE guys to raft up and share a few warm beers at 9:00AM. Good Times!

Here are a few pics from the race....I got to watch some of the video from one of the helicopters and there were some great shots....It looked like Martie Wells and Todd Haig were racing pretty hard on the trip back from the Island....Here are a few pics that I took..

Hey Burt...the ski race was Victory at Sea...pretty rough seas...had a difficult time finding any rythem for the skier...it was survival of the fittest. After fifteen minutes, we realized that we had a huge lead in the Veteran Mens class and just kept a steady pace and made sure that Phil would not fall.

Phil Kramer did a great job of skiing considering we did not do any practive runs to Catalina...we did five miles the week before to get the right line length and that was it...just show up Saturday morning and strap it on and see what happens. All the top guys ahead of us and the ones behind us make the practice run once or twice a week so considering our lack of practice time, we were extremely pleased with the results.

There werer a number of open skiers that did face plants during the first five miles...just trying to go too fast too soon...that is ski racing.

Overall, it was a great event and a great time for all.

The best news is that the famed Phantom Curse was at least put off until next year!!!!

Default Catalina Ski race

Congrats to my Nephew Kyle Cummings who we pulled to a 5th in men's open and a 6th Overall. It was rough conditions for the Skiers. First time for me and our 38 Formula was a good boat for the conditions.
