Great, then you have plenty of time to talk to numerous independent repair shops about bolting things on Merc "black" motors. I know one in Havasu you can start with. Next time your out there I'll introduce you.

All have forged rods but the blue engines are shotpeened

The 496 and the 525 of course have closed cooling

the 525 is closed cooling, H beam 4340 rods 4340 crank JE pistons blueprinted and factory sealed "Blue " ya pay big bucks for this

It is my understanding that the 525 is a 500 with a few different parts. IE valve covers, manifold, closed cooling etc.

What is the HP rating on a GM HP3. I don't know much about them but have heard the computer is super in them as far as helping to keep the motors from denoting if a problem arises.

The problem with modifing a 496, the warranty would go like some threads around here........poof!:D

The ECU is a Motorolla 555 with a crank trigger, cam sensor and has knock sensors. timing and fuel delivery are controlled also aluminum heads with closed cooling vs cast iron on the 500 with open cooling... much MUCH better for turn key driving
