Hot Boat, regarding the noise of the new diesels. You can not hear them going down the road. The new Dodge is leaps and bounds quieter than the earlier Cummins. The Ford and Chevy are also very quiet. Drive one down the interstate and you have a very hard time telling they are diesel. We are talking about the 03 model years. Just FYI.

Towing

I tow my 39 velocity with a 99 3500 dually with the 6.5 diesel. I love it. Gets around 9.5 to 10 mpg and absolutely no problems. I have a problem running down the interestate under 80 or 85 mph though. I cruise at or above 85 mph. I had heard a lot a bad stories about the 6.5 but mine has proven to be quite a work horse. It has 88,000 miles on it, but service it every 2500 to 3000 miles because I only use it to pull my boat. I can pull with the best of them. On a recent rainy day I went truck shopping to kill time and drove the duramax and the 6.0 ford diesel. Both are power houses. I like the 6.0 but I read on the ford forum online that there are still some problems with these engines that will be worked out by the 04 year model. An engineer also said that they are reworking the fuel rail to eliminate the past problems which will also make the engines as quite as the duramax at idle.

Towing

Sorrry, left one off. I also tried the dodge, but did not like the sound. It was extremely loud at idle. However it was cheaper than the others. I personally like the quiteness of gas but the power and fuel economy of the diesel. I like my boats loud and my trucks like the little lady, QUITE.

OK guys. Where are all of the big trucks? I know that they are out there and there MUST be at least a few tow rigs on the board like this one.....

2003 F-150 pulls my 28' Thunder without a problem. Average acceleration and stops well.

1998 3500 Chevrolet dually with 6.5 TD. Runs down the road like a gasser, but I think its a dog for towing. It was huffing with my little 20' Correct Craft on the way to LOTO.
