Default Anyone know/refer LOTO area MercTrans rebuilder??

I have basically been through hell and back trying to get my MercTrans (TRS) transmissions to work. I am really thinking of parting with this Excalibur even though I have spent a decent fortune making it look pretty bad ass. A local motor shop here in Tulsa has been trying to rebuilt/fix them yet now has basically given up on them because they can not figure out why they are not working correctly (running too hot then burning up). I am willing to take the boat all the way to LOTO just as long as a TRUE mechanic knows what he is TRULY doing when working with a MercTrans transmission. I simply figured LOTO is the closest area to me that would have someone that actually knows what they are doing when rebuilding a MercTrans II transmission.

At the same time, I am considering suffering my losses and simply selling the boat CHEAP and moving on......

Please give me some names and numbers if you have them!!!

Thanks,

If you can get the Transmissions out send them to Huber In Tennesee he can rebuild them for you for about 600 if they do not need any parts. With Huber you will get a warranty. You have to supply the seal kit for them. I have a guy here in town that is a merc master mechanic that did mine. I can get you his phone #. He does it on the side. Huber adds a plate to make them handle a little more power. You may want to step up to B/W transmissions if you are running a lot of power.

Don't give up!! (unless you just want to sell it to me cheap) Seriously though; Call Tom Huber, Huber Marine Transmissions, at 615-794-7583. He can rebuild one of those, (they were only made to have small blocks in front of them but DID go out with some 330 BB's) and make them dependable with up to 500 H.P. I've personally serviced a number or these MerCtrans II units and they are currently working well (even after as much as 10 yrs. abuse) but, TOM HUBER IS THE MAN!! For another real knowledgeable builder, you might want to talk to Mark at BAM Marine. He's on this site a lot and is an advertiser. Good luck!! --- Jer

What about TRS Drives??? I would like to get my drives serviced. But, I want to take them to a place that knows what they are doing with TRS drives.

I use to work at a Marina at the Ozarks while I was going through School and most of the Mechanic's I knew were old shade tree mechanic's that just got by. They said they could work on ANYTHING!! Yea, right!!

Anyway, who is good with TRS drives?? Trustworthy and reasonable???
