Default New (to us) Tow vehicle!

Got me a new used truck last night. 2500 Suburban with a 454 4WD leather...all the good stuff. It's also got some kind of airpump under the hood that I think pumps up airbags or something when you start it.

Does anyone have any idea what this airpump under the hood is for ? When I first started the truck it ran for about 15-20 seconds. A wholesaler got me the truck at an auction and he has no idea. There is also a toggle switch on the dash and a thing mounted under the dash that looks kind of like a garage door opener. I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with brakes or trailer brakes because when i would step on the brake pedal a little light would come on. I guess that i can trace out the lines that come out of the pump and see where they go.

I would think the pump is for airbags on the rear suspension to assist in towing. The remote device sounds like electric brakes for trailer??

Look for airbags mounted between the rear tire and the frame rails. Also, check the plug connector for the trailer lights, and look at the wire colors, and see if they match the wire colors to the box under the dash. Also, look for any paperwork in or behind the glovebox, as you might can find the prior owner and ask him.

The box unfer the dash is a brake controler for electric trailer brakes. There is probably a slide switch on it as well to control the sensativity of the trailer brakes.
