Vyper,
I'm 50 plus and still playing. Quality skate sharpening and skate fitting are very important. I'll pretty much buy any equipment at the going price in a shop that does fitting and sharpening well.
Typically you find teenaged rink rats working shops and they have zero experience.
Perani's is a huge equipment suppier in S.E. Michigan and we also have good shops in Windsor.

Absolutely...when I played, I was very fussy about who sharpened my skates. If I went to a hack, my game would suffer that night because my blades would not do what I wanted them to. I bought my stuff at the same place because I was too busy to spend my time running around for deals on equipment. All I wanted was a fair price and good service.
