Request for Application

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commision (FWC) seeks applications for appointment to the Boating Advisory Council. The Boating Advisory Council is a state advisory council under SS 327.803, Florida Statutes. It advises the FWC and the Florida Department Community affairs regarding regulations and other major boating matters.

Among the Boating Advisory Council members are those drawn from the following sectors of the boating community: One representative of manatee protection interests, one representative of the marine industries, two representatives of water-related environmental groups, one representative of marine manufacturers, one representative of commercial vessel owners or operators, one representative of sport boat racing, one representative actively involved and working full-time in the scuba diving industry who has experience in recreational boating, and two representatives of the boating public. Members representing these groups are nominated by the executive director of the FWC and appointed by the Governor to serve staggered 2-year terms. In support of the Commision's policy of gender and ethnic diversity, qualified women and members of minority groups are encouraged to apply.

The Boating Advisory Council normally meets two to three times each year at locations selected by the Division of Law Enforcement. Members serve without compensation. When attending council meetings, members may be provided travel expenses and per diem if agency funding permits.

FWC will consider applications for five positions that will expire and become vacant in September 2003: commercial vessel owners or operators; manatee protection interests; marine manufacturers; sport boat racing; and water-related environmental groups. Applicants are considered for membership on the basis of their particular expertise, knowledge, and experience in recreational boating.

You may request an application form by writing to FWC, Division of Law Enforcement, Office of Boating and Waterways, Attention Ms. Shelly Gurr, 620 South Meridian Street, Tallahassee, FL 32399-1600; by calling 850-488-5600; or by faxing 850-488-9284.
