Orange Beach,Alabama race report
Well, we had a blast, did the Sat Poker Run,just over 100 boats.First stop was Pensacola, maybe 30 miles outside in the ocean, was told it was smooth, guys down here have another definition of smooth,we were out of the water as much as we were in the water, I locked my hands to the grab rails and Dano got us there first boat. Dry pits were neat, accessable and lots of friendly people around. The Sunday race was very easy to view, maybe 300 yards from the beach, very spectator friendly and a live continous broadcast on local radio. A lot of fans on the beach and lots of boats anchored out to watch. I'm sure most fans had no idea of the classes but the boats were really, really loud and most had wild graphics so they all had fun. The local economy got a healthy shot, restaurants and bars were packed all weekend. The Supercat race was great,Pier 57 and Live Bait battled it out the whole 105 miles, identical MTI's I was told, swapping leads every lap.The neat thing was that the race sponser,Gary Nichols, was driving Live Bait, rumor says he bought it. I have to say that I have I have always been an APBA guy but this SBI race was the most fun I have had lately.2 or 3 Jersy Boys were down and I think did well.I have high hopes that Gary will get everyone together for next year. Robert
