Buy the M-3. Awesome all around car. Are you getting manual shift or SMG trans??? If you can swing the bucks get the SMG--It's way cool to drive fast !!!

I am a fan of the manual my self, I have a 1998 328 is now and love it, i have racked up 140,000 miles and all i ever did was change the oil every 12-15,000 miles, and it still runs and looks like a brand new car, my only comlaint is the lack of horse power in the 328.

had older Porsche, 2 BMW,a 328i and 528i. I would step up to the Benz but that is where I'm looking to go. It depends on the type of feeling you want when you sit behind the wheel.

m3.
the sls are nice but are much cushier than a the m3. Kind of floatey (compared to an m3 or porsche)on the road and only available in auto.
the boxsters is porcshe with panties, and teh new 996 911 are lexuses made to look liek porcshe. They are fast and handle but the feel is gone in them. I still liek the 993 911s better.
at least your not considerign acayenne.

The porsche and M3 should handle about the same but you will have more room in the M3 plus it will accelerate faster. I would go with the M3. Just not a big fan of the SLS. But with a 50K price plan, I would personally look for a good used Viper or a Lingenfelter Corvette. The vette being the more user friendly. Good luck.

Hugetime,
I had a 328i Conv, and it was the worst car I ever owned. Something broke every three months and avg repair was around $450 each time. It was fun to drive but not worth the headache. Maybe I just got a bad one. I would go with the Vette unless you need 4 seats.

I just bought a 325i and love it. it's not nearly the car that the M3 is, but it handles great and is pretty quick too.
We compared it to the 230 Kompressor, and it was by far a much better handling/accelerating/braking car.
the 6 cyl motor is by far better than the supercharged 4cyl in the Benz. My budget was 30k, so this car filled the bill just fine! Of course, I've only got 200 miles on the car so far, but it's been great and FUN!

As much as I love Porsche..............I hate the Boxster for a guy. It's a perfect chick car for sure. You need something with balls. The M3 has always been an all around great car. Decent power and great BMW styling.
Although I agree with Puder. The 993's are the ticket.
