That should be a great project. A friend of mine in East Hampton just sold his 31. Nice boat. Funny thing is that we were recently talking about trying to find an older Bertram and redo it. There is an old Bertram of some type in Norwalk Cove Marina. It is a twin engined speedboat, though and definately old and in bad shape. Neither of us knew Bertram ever made a boat like it.

Sweet Sean. That's going to be one nice ride when your done with it. A little different for sure, but it's being on the water that matters, especially on a boat that you've worked on and have pride in That's a great hull also, no problem with the waters around here in that thing. What kind of power and what's the length?

It's actually smaller than it looks...

The boat 1972 25 Bertram Mark II Sportfisherman. Current power is a pair of 165 Mercruisers with MR drives. We'll be pulling the power and drives and replacing with new power from Mercury---probably 4.3l V-6 with Alpha drives. The boat is rock solid and has been sitting for many years. Its a clean, unmolested hull which is what i generally look for in a project...

We were looking for something we can keep at the dock and just get in and go...and maybe do a little inshore fishing...

And no, I did not sell the Cafe...and I'm not really trying to...I'm gonna hang on to it unless someone comes along and pays my asking price...which is about to go up after I add hydraulic steering.

The 25 Bertram is actually a large boat for its size with a 9'11" beam. The deadrise is somewhere around 24 degress which makes it a sturdy rough water boat.

Photos of the older Bertram raceboats can be found on speedmasters-inc.com

I'm also interested in seeing som photos of that boat JROMY describes. I've heard of one or two other Bertram sportboats being built, and back in the 80's if you had the money, they would build just about anything you wanted...

I fished on a 25 Bertram for many summers out of Cape May NJ. My friends dad bought one. Put in new power the boat was rock solid. We would go out 40-50 miles in that thing and always came back with no problems. They can handle some rough water very well.
