I have used Gil Offshore for ten seasons and finally the stainless tailpipes leaked. A small leak that caused a miss at idle. I thought that was an excellent track record.
But, if they have a problem because of some bad castings, then Gil should make good on them. Ship them out for inspection now.

I wonder why the crack there? Getting hot?

I thought the manifolds used on the HP motors are Mercruiser and only the risers are Gil? At least the casting name on mine was "Mercruiser"

My understanding is that they are made for Merc by Gil.

I've got a used set,with tail pipes.

If you can use them let me know

GIL DOES NOT BACK THEIR PRODUCT
THEY TELL YOU TO SEND THEM FOR INSPECTION THEN THEY TELL YOU THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO

I have a set of Gil Manifolds on My smallblock that are 17 years old,I stripped and re-powdercoated last year and the inside still looks like new.The boat is not docked and never been in Salt. I think that says something for an aluminum manifold.

:D

Ive been using Gils for 15 years and never had a problem. Aside from the fact that I cant get at my plugs (twins on 32" centers) I have been very happy with my gils

Notched_Baja 04-18-2004 09:28 PM

Are the Gil exhaust cracking in the manifold or the stainless riser? I have my set off and I am wondering how would I pressure test the riser? I cant plug up the outlet inside the riser.

Mine cracked in the manifolds. Right at the top where the cylinder divider walls are. Both manifolds were cracked in the same place. They were only hairline cracks, but I suspect with heat and h2o pressure, that they were leaking a decent amount while running.

The risers were also starting to get hairline cracks on the interior welds.
