Hydraulic steering cylinder rebuilds
 

How often should a hydraulic steering cylinder need to be rebuilt?:confused:

I have a single ram on a Kaama surface drive setup.

Didn't you just redo them last year ? Mine were real old and only had one need fixing . Send it to a GOOD hydraulic shop . Make sure it is a shop that only does hydraulics , not an auto repair shop ! Good luck . joe

I had a very respectable hydraulic shop do the work. Also, I had it done at the same place the year before. Every year is starting to be a pain in the a$$. Especially since the boat rarely gets used.

I guess the bright side is that on Monday, I perfected the art of driving using only the engines and transmissions.

Hey , I wonder if the type of fluid you use is a problem . I don't remember what I used but you might want to ask around about that . Good luck , Joe

Don't know if this applies to you, but out here we have a lot of dissolved minerals in our water, and very, very hot desert climate. If you let this high mineral water air dry on your cylinder rams, you will cut the seals very quickly. Best cure, spray down with WD-40 type of lube when you get thru every day. My rams last for years...
