The worst thing you could do is move to Florida without a job lined up.
Almost everyone that comes here "cold" winds up moving back to where they came from. I had several friends try it and within 6 months they were back home.

Good paying jobs are hard to get and there's lots of competition for the few that are out there. If you don't mind working your a$$ off for 7.50 an hour there's lots of those but you can't live on it.

If you do find a decent job, be careful where you choose to live. Looks can be decieving.
The apartment we lived in looked great but after the first two days I wanted out.
Day one: drunk guy rams into one of the buildings causing structural damage.
Day two: major shootout with one dead over a leather jacket. Dead guy had a shotgun but was killed by a cross bow.
Stolen Porche 928 (brand new, still had sticker on window) pulled out of retention pond in front of our complex.
My daughters bike was stolen off our second floor porch.
We lasted 6 months in that hell and had many more things happen during that time.

Best of luck to you.

Thumbs up Why do you think I hardly post anymore?

I'm ALWAYS BOATING!!!

Do it Tommy.

We moved to Ft. Myers earlier this year and haven't had a moment of regret.

Yesterday, we had the boat anchored off 20 yards from a white sandy beach along the Gulf side of Cayo Costa Island. The wife and I were collecting shells and enjoying life, we had a moment where we both asked each other when we were going to wake up from this permenant vacation and have to move back north. Fortunately, that is not going to happen.

I would rather be poor, happy, and tan rather than comfortably compensated, pale, and angry at the weather outside.

Come on down, I'll keep the exterior thermostat at 85ish. That's what it is now at least.

There is some good advice on this thread.
Listen to them. None of them say not to go!

My advice-
Bring no debt with you.
Have a minimum of $2000 to spend in your pocket.
Have more in reserve, just in case.
Have a dependable vehicle with good A/C.
Have copies of your resume.

If possible, get a friend to move with you.
Living expenses are much easier with two crappy incomes rather than one.

You really can do it.
Put your head down and stay persistant.

Good luck!

Hahahaaa!!

Oh, I'll be rubbing it in any chance I get!

Donzigerl said something about missing Lake Cumberland! Now THAT is hilarious!!!
I do miss my family and friends on Lake Cumberland, but not enough to freeze my ass off.
Besides, there is only so much lake to see.

Birdog, here's an island south of the one we were on yesterday. This pic was from a few weeks ago. We had our little boats out.
Eat your heart out!

OK, that is not even close to being funny....I'm not freezing up here this week but still. That is far better any day of the week. I can live with a little rain every afternoon for the warm the rest of the time. Making plans and spreading the resume already.....
