even if it does not come back as fixed I would take it to a reputable auto body shop and have them take a look. Often times accidents do not ever get reported to Car Fax.

Even with an account, Carfax still charges per report. An individual can get a "complimentary abbreviated" carfax report for free. It will list as "all clean" or "minor issues", but you gotta pay to see what the minor issues are. If it is "all clean" then there are no minor issues.

If buying this car from a dealer, ask to use his paintmeter on the car cause a couple of panels look suspect. (he WILL have a paintmeter - although they don't work on plastic, and only the new ones work on aluminum).

I drive a truck that was totaled and my wife drives a car that was totaled. If they are fixed right they can be just as good or better than new. And I can guarantee you there aren't many 23 year old college students driving new cars that are paid for. Hence no payments! I have around $3000 in a 2000 model camaro. But I also have a lot of experienced labor in it.

Thanks everyone. It looks like it has only been painted on one side. They didn't tape the window off well enough. Thanks again.

Carfax are far from 100% accurate. Also i have even seen brand-new cars that had paint work from among other things issues during transit from plant to the dealer. Carfax can help flag some major issues, but I wouldn't depend on it totally. Still needs a good look over.

Carfax is indeed a far cry from a good autopsy.

It WILL flag odometer tampering from a dealer standpoint (almost nothing will flag it if the owner did it).

It WILL show any title transfers that mysteriously evolve from rebuilt to clean.

It will also give a snapshot of the vehicle's location history.

As always, BUYER BEWARE.

There are a few more things that I noticed about the car that I didn't like. The A-pillar molding isn't where it is supposed to be and when you open the door it makes a clicking noise. It is the rod that keeps the door from opening too far. It is cracked where it is pinned to the chassis... Looks like we'll pass on it...
