Spring Break, Boat or not??
OK,
Here we go, myself and some friends are planning a spring Break trip down to FL either Panama City or Daytona, (open for suggestions). We are thinking about either taking my 27 Fountain or a 30 Baja. Think it would be pretty sweet. I know I am not in College anymore but I will be that week
However I need some input on ability to get guests aboard from the beach. Can they just swim out? Also is their a limit as to how close to the beach we can pull up and anchor?
Thanks
WILL

I dont know of any limit to how close you can get to the beach(if anyone knows different I have always wondered this myself), however it sometimes gets shallow quick, and the locals may not take too well to it, since it is not regular practice. The best bet would be to get a slip(preferably at a local hot spot), and have everybody meet you there.

you will not be able to anchor the boat in Daytona off the beach, like Baja said.. the rip currents and surf would kill ya. You would have to get a slip somewhere and travel back and forth. I would look for a place with slips so you can have a room and the boat. I dont know to much about panama city so cant help you there.

Try the Halifax Marina or Carribean Jacks (sp?) both close to Daytona. They have had some Poker Runs use them as stopping off places.
Here's " Jacks.."http://www.caribbeanjacks.com/

There is alot of good running in Daytona but not too many waterfront bars to enjoy. Carribeans, Inlet Harbor, Down the hatch, and the new sunsrise marina. Most of the action happens over on the beachside. You cannot come closer than 1500 feet to the beach here. They are really strict about it. If you are coming for braek get a slip at Carribeans, it is close to the clubs and the best strip club in the area.... Lolllipops!!!

Thanks for all the input, the way it is shaping up now is we will be taking the 30 or 33 Baja. It can carry more people. Next we are working on where to stay, the goal is to stay at the wildest hotel/resort there.

Will,
May I recommend the Adam's Mark. It's centrally located, on the beach right on A1A. It's next to Main street, next to the pier and next to the new party complex(I think it's call Ocean Walk). You can't beat the location. Book early.
