I have a 2001 Excursion with the V-10 with around 65k miles. 20K is probably towing 7K lbs. No problems at all other than brakes. I would highly recommend if it is going to be a 2nd/3rd auto. I tow my Donzi all over the state and 75/80mph is no problem.

I also tow a 33 Donzi with a V-10 Excursion. Does like the gas station, however it would about 3500 gallons or 50K miles or so to pay for the difference. Pulls over 11,000 lbs of boat and trailer w/o any problems at all.

One more V-10 owner here. 2000 Excursion, 47,000 miles, not a single problem.
Well, one - the power mirrors are getting flaky, but I don't the PSD would have prevented that. :D

Pro - can buy them for a song, especially in the Excursion. Tend to be trouble free.

Con - expect to give it away at trade in time. Likes gas.

I've got a 2001 F-250 with the V-10 with 47K

Problems:
A coil crapped out one day.

Other than that, a fuel and air filter and oil changes and it has not missed a beat. Myself I would buy a diesel next time, but I do alot more driving now with it than when I bought it so I would be inclined to go for the bettre gas mileage.

Ford replaced the front hubs under warranty and the steering stabilizer, but that's minor in my eyes.

The brakes still have about 40 % remaining and it toes my donzi and my 4 place enclosed sled trailer like it's nothing.

The V-10 is a great motor. A friend has one and it does not break a sweat towing. Makes it a little more convienent at the pumps. But then most stations carry diesel today.
What size load are you towing, the 26'?

My 250 has the 5.4 V-8. It pulls my 32 Fever with no problem other than slow take offs and still gets 11mpg highway towing. It runs steady on the highway at 75mph with minimal throttle variation. @65, it has a dead spot at 65-70 where it seems like I about have to really work at it to maintain 65. Above 70, it'll stay with traffic, even up mountains. Must be the torque curve thingy. Just tow w/ OD off.
I would buy the V-10 today if I had the 32 at the time I bought the truck though.

Great response from all.

Yes I will be towing my 26PQ. I have a diesel Suburban now which pulls fine, but mileage is getting a little high. That is why I was asking about the V-10, if I do anything it would be an Excursion, did not think the gas V-8 in a Excursion and pulling would be a good combo.
