I want one of those new ones that records directly on a dvd but a little to pricey for me now waiting for them to come down.

I think it is JVC that makes a HDTV one for around 1500. If you can swing it that is DEFINATLY the way to go.

The consumer HDTV cam from JVC that I saw was more like 3 grand list.
For the $500.00 range I like the canons.

I second the vote for Canon. Bought a ZR-60 a few months back, so far it's been great.
I'd love to have one of the ones that records straight to DVD, but they're still a little steep for what I use it for.

They have a consumer and a pro version. The Consumer version retails for 2500 I think but you can find it all over for 1700 bucks easy and even cheaper at a few. The pro versions are in the 3500 retail and sell for 2400 for the low end one and 2800 for the high end one. If you are going to spend 2400 the extra 400 gets you a LOT more.

The problem now is editing. There is no real consumer HDTV software to edit the stuff so you have to down convert it. Still gives you a superior image to a regular camera and when the HDTV software comes out then you will have all your video ready to go.

Is this the one you are talking about? I know JVC lists it in it's Pro section. I or anyone that I work with would never consider this a pro camera. It a nice high end consumer camera.
You are correct editing is a problem at this point but that should be taken care of real soon.
