If this trailer was dunked at a ramp, I am sure that the boxes would flood. Due to the setup, we are not planning to dunk this trailer if we keep it. If it went under water, not only would the boxes get wet, but so would the axles (not sealed), not to mention the fuel and water tanks (and pump) going under.
Not being able to design it and select the layout is certainly one of the downfalls of buying a used trailer, but this one came with the boat. This Apache was originally a race boat, so I assume that they never considered having to dunk the trailer because of the availability of the cranes at the race sites.
We still have not decided 100% whether we are gonna rehab this trailer or replace it. If we replace it, we will more than likely go with a triple axle gooseneck. We'll have all the numbers in and make a decision in the next few days.
On the other trailers that I posted pictures of, I had Myco mount the tool boxes as far forward as possible so that we had the option to use a ramp if needed. At race sites we use the crane like everybody else because we have to be weighed, but we do use the ramp on occasion when we run the boat here at home. The boxes on these trailers do stay dry.
