Default OT - Duramax with High Miles - Problems???

I found a Duramax 3500 for sale. It is only 2 years old, but it has 160,000 miles! I took the truck for a drive and could not find any problems. The price is right. Any big issues to look for? Any weak spots?

Thanks,

Steve

I think I can pick it up for 20. Leather, 4x4, dually. The truck seems in great shape. Just a ton of miles.

Rumor has it that some of the early duramaxes had problems with twisting the cranks? Later models have been corrected is what I've heard. I have no factual evidence and obvously with 160K on the ticker the motor is strong.

If taken care of the engine actually does have a lot of life left. I don't know about the rest of the truck though.

Afriend of mine in FL tows boats with a 2002 duramax and has put over175k on it with out major motor trouble. Just check the turbo and pumps out that is what I have seen go bad on them so far. If you are still lookin cal my friends at OK TRUCK & TRAILER sale in Oklahoma, he deals in some clean trucks with decent miles. 405-232-1200 ask for Kevin and say John sent ya. If you are still looking and dont mind to travel

I have heard from a buddy a Chevy tech some probs with the seals on the injectors leaking and filling the motor up with fuel. Most he said were old work trucks with a lot of miles. 2001-2002

Also heard some get stuck in 4x4 and they don't know what causes it .

On my 2003 the service 4x4 lite comes on some times . they don't know why?

On the key switch the memory doesn't read when you put the key in and out . They said they don't have a fix for it yet These may be rare cases

The 4x4 duallys eat up front tires.

What is book on the truck ,sound like a good price if it looks like it was taken care of.
Good luck
Rob

$20,000 is way too much to pay for a pick-up with 160,000 miles. Do not do it. Duramax, Cummins, Powerstroke.....that is just too much.

Take a little more time and look a little longer before you pay that much for a truck with that many miles.

You can buy a 50,000 mile diesel for only a couple of grand more.....regardless of the model year. And the miles are a lot more important than the year.
