Mercruiser certified

My nephew is now interested in offshore boating, and is a gear head. he was at the new york boat show and was talking to some people about working on boats. all told him he must be mercruiser certified to be taken serious, i also told him that... how can i get this kid down to the school, must be a shortcut. can someone set this kid up while he pays for it. i know nothing about this but im sure some of you guys do, there is no better crowd to ask. so whatever information i can get from you guys would be great. this kid is young and i have never seen him as excited about something.

If I remember correctly he needs to work at a Merc Dealer for a year then take the at home 500 question test before he can even get to go to school....

I may have some paperwork on this... I'll scan it if I do and post it...

I believe you have to work for a Merc dealer for a year and pass a test before being allowed to attend the school. I have 3 friends that are starting the school on the 6th in Dallas.

He needs to be sponsored by a Mercury/Mercruiser authorized service dealership or start his own business and go that way. The guidlines are justifiably getting tougher and tougher to go around.
