old hemi marine engines
 

some time ago accidently i bought a mopar muscle car.GTX with factory 426 hemi engine.untill that time i had no interest to mopar engines.but after this car started to visit mopar forums etc.then realized hemi-stuff is something more important then i thought. started searching these engines here in turkei and bought the ones i found. have several hemi engines for the moment.all of them are marine engines with chrome valve cover and chrysler marine logo on them.2 of them are 354 cubic inches and other two are 392 cu.in.

i am wondering are these low-hp engines valuable? or is only 426 cu.in car-engine is the desired one? cause they need some parts to rebuilt and i am not sure if i should rebuild them. or do they have any historic value? i am not talking about the prices here, are they worth restoring?

Too heavy for a boat.....What I was always told.

The early Hemi's are popular for period style street rods, but not much else. As stated, they are HEAVY and have a unique bellhousing arrangement. You can find more info at http://www.classichemi.com/ and http://www.earlyhemiparts.com/

The 426's were killer motors. Unfortunately they also were "killer" on spark plugs. They usually had to be changed about every twelve hundred miles. In a boat, that would be a major pain in the a$$.

there is a marina/boat yard not to far from me that has this big old fish'n boat out in the weeds that has a hemi in it. looks like the motor is in good shape to.:cool:

I guess the question is what would you do with them if you restored them. They are wonderful engines, and one of the greatest designs of all time. However, they are limited to the machining and assembly technoligy of their time. The 354 cu in was made in 1956 and came in the Chrysler New Yorker and the High Output version in the 300B. The 392 cu was 1957 and 1958, again for the New Yorker and 300 C&D. I love these engines. Now for a modern boat, no way. Parts would be difficult and anything this 1950's technoligy could do the BB Chevy could do better. However, if you went to one of the Chrysler Classic web pages I'm certain you could find a buyer with no problem.

Besides, what the heck would you do with the road draft tube in a boat:p
