Traviss, being a minor does help on fines, but I am probably screwed for insurance for years.... (My ticket for 90 in a 55 was a 50$ ticket, and 50 in court costs)

I got a ticket on a lease where the tags were 3 months expired. I had moved and had gotten my renewals in the mail for my boat, trailer, and other car. The one never came and it expired on Jan 1 instead of my birthday in July. When the cop asked the old "Do you know why I pulled you over?", I said I have no idea. She told me and I actually got out of the car and checked it. SOB, I couldn't believe it. She suggested I fight it, so I did and somehow got it down to a faulty equipment charge for no points and $30 from the prosecutor at traffic court.

Long story short, get a court date and tell your story. It looks pretty good when half of the people in traffic court are there claiming "I only had a couple of beers" with a BAC of .18. Plead not guilty or guilty with an explanation, it really can't hurt.

Again, I admitted I was wrong, I had not reregistered the truck on time, after it had changed regisitration dates due to FL changing the law. I realize ignorance of the law is no excuse. But why can't someone make a very small minor honest mistake which was, under the circumstances, a very easy mistake to make, and HAVE to get a ticket for it. I mean when did police departments become "revenue producing agencies". The world as we know it would not have come to an end if that state police officer had just pointed out to me that my tag had expired. Remember, it was only 22 days out. Another point: the "PR" perspective. If that cop had just pointed out that it was out of date and just told me to to take care of it, I'd written a post commending him for his courtesey, instead of writing the post that I did. You can even take it a step further by stating it's part of what's wrong with the world today. Common courtesy has gone down the drain. Yes it's his job to write tickets for violations, but is it not also his job to be able to decide what may or may not constitute a ticket? Is there a law I don't know about that says every single infraction result in a ticket? If there was, the backlog in court would be ten friggin years. I'm not whining about getting the ticket. I'm just emphatically stating I think the guy should've shown a little common courtesey and, all things considered, cut me a break. That's all.

10 days late , 20 , 30 , 40.
who knows , maybe he was instructed not to hand out warnings at all , just tickets.

I can't speak for other States, but in Michigan, the revenues from tickets do not go to the Police agencies! We do not write tickets for our budget, the County library gets the money from all of our tickets after the court takes out its costs, the Sheriff's Office does not get a dime.

Extra revenue we get comes from seizures from drug dealers.

Under these particular circumstances I think 30 days would be a reasonable timetable. (considering my birthdate, which is when I thought it expired was just in that timetable)

I thought, and still think, he could have cut me a break. For that reason and that reason alone, I considered hiim a jerk. No offense meant to anyone else.

I also think that anyone who can't take a second or two to hold a door open for someone who is close behind you is a jerk.

And I will staunchly defend anyone/everyone's right to disagree with me.

I played all growing up and thru the travel years...never played professionally, although some of my teamates from the younger years did, that or D-1 or D-3 college. I considered trying out for a few ECHL teams about 6 or 7 years ago, but never did it. I now wish I would have. Cincy and Lexington had ECHL teams at the time.

Where did you play?

For teams that unfortunately, no longer exist. I did a 14 game stint with the Maine Mariners,(due to injuries and call ups to the NJ Devils) they needed a warm body and I was close by. This was back in 83'. (I think). Basically I played out of the Mass. area. I get the occasional hockey news and I don't recoginize 75 % of the teams any more. The Maine Mariners became and still are the Providence Bruins. I think there's only two teams still in the AHL that are the same. The ECHL has changed dramatically, though not as much as the AHL. The IHL is long gone. That was a good league, actually probably better than AHL, AHL was more of a development league, still is. The IHL was comprised of "fringe" NHL players. Much different game in those days. Rougher.
I totally shattered my shoulder in a motorcycle accident and that was the end of hockey. Some of the best and worst (18 hour bus rides) of my life. Also survived the coldest weather I was ever in. Luckily I never played aainst him (would've call in sick), but my opinion, the best fighter I ever saw was Dave Brown. That man could "go". For his size, Garry Howatt was a very close second. Ahh, the glory of youth.
