Merc will be unveiling their new 4-stroke outboards at the Miami show. This is a clean sheet for them- no Yamaha influences, all Merc engineering.
Supercharged, and very conservatively rated at low boost (for the time being;) ) at 250 HP, with growth potential to at least 400. Should prove to be an interesting new design- can't wait to see it!:) Jim |
holy cow!!! thats a monster! I'd love to see whats under the cover! :D

Merc has gone back to its roots- the inline six. I had heard of delays on its release due to problems keeping the power head sealed- supposedly the two bottom cylinders are VERY close to the water's surface.
My biggest question is octane- they made the mistake of requiring premium for both the 250XS and the 300X, and it's costing them a lot of sales. Will the supercharger require the high octane? If it does, the scenario will be the same........... Jim |
any word on what the dissplacement of the engine?
|
Are they using 8-71's or 14-71's !!:D :D
It looks like they have room for it ! |

That's amazing....it's only a matter of time before the 2-strokers are history. The EPA laws are crunching on everyone....it's nice to see that they can still get good power in a 4-stroke. The cowl is huge but I guess if you have a supercharged inline-6 you need it!!!!

Won't be seeing them on any small boats. They are pretty big, and look bigger and heavier than the other 4 stroke outboards.

Is that guy 3' tall?
That thing is Huge. |
