Thats a Great site Biggus. Region 1 has the vintage APBA race every 2 years. I met a couple of the people who put on this event at the annual meeting. They work extremely hard and produce a outstanding race. I highly
recommend attending it's a great chance to check out history. Jo

Joe,

Did you ever go to the "Thunder in the Valley" inboard hydro races in Lowell Mass? We went several years. I wish they had more hydro races in New England.

The vintage hydro and other vintage skiffs will be running at Detroit along with the Unlimited Gold Cup.

I have two photo albums I took at the 2003 Gold Cup. They had a bidding for a ride in one and the highest bid was about $8,500..

We all still love the roar of those babies..

Here is the address to the photos. The albums are on page 2.===>

I do!Back in 1974 the unlimited Hydros came to Toledo and the roar of those 12cyls had me Hooked.I Crewed on a few different Grand Prix Inboard Hydro's( Orange Crush,Batten Performance,Cloyes Timing Chain and finally Roger Mahans Hemi Powered " Pleasure Seekers")Grand Prix Inboard Teams From 1989 until 1996.These were all Jamie Auld Designed Boats, my Dad and I are friends with Jimmy King. He eventually made it to the Unlimiteds ,But I don't think he has a ride for this year.

Jafo

Since the Allison powered U3 beat the crap out of the turbines last year, I don't think he would be considered as "Vintage"

It would be interesting to see the U3 go against Callen in a kilo run...

Biggus They talked about that Lowell race but not sure if they are able to produce it anymore. I think is was unable to obtain permit. Region 1 beside the vintage and the race in Taunton Ma.( Mod Stock, Drag etc.) looks forward and is working to produce more events in the future. Jo

I think hydroplane racing would be better if they went back to piston engines. An engine such as the Torque V-12 or one of these new wide bore center mountain motors could serve as a starting point. The noise added so much to the spectacle.
