I keep getting pop-ups every time I sign on. I tried the freebies and then it blocked my email and some other programs. They were worse that the popups. I had to delete all their crap. What works?

You might have to try a different service provider. Mine sceens out a lot of jusnk before it gets to my computer. Then I have Norton for firewall, ( I had to buy it) and AVG ( it's free and updates virus protection everyday)
Both were recomended by the guy that built my computer.

Choicemailone www.digiportal.com is an email filtering program that blocks any address or domain not approved by you or that is in your address book.

It challenges the unknowns and deletes them after a period of time that you specify. You can review the ones that are sent out for approval if you want to or you can wait for them to respond to the challenge.

I no longer deal with spam and never get email from anyone that I don't know or that does not have a reason to email me.

Well worth the money ($40) I would have spent twice as much to get rid of all the spam I was getting.

Okay, I've not found a "popup blocker" that is worth having.

I don't run a firewall on the computer, only a firewall on the routers.

On the computers, I run Adaware every so often (at the first sign of weirdness). You can get it at
www.lavasoft.de
Check for updates every time you run it.
I use AVG's virus checker and set it to run weekly and do auto updates.
www.grisoft.com
And run Windows update regularly.
There's also a trojan checker that works good if you get some really weird stuff going on. It's "the Cleaner".
www.moosoft.com

I do this on over thirty computers and all are fine. Some were royally screwed before somebody hollered at me to come take a look.

Don't run any of the search bar enhancements.
Don't let a popup offer a new home page suggestion.

Any agressive porn site will leave a bunch of stuff you need to clean out with adaware...

Googles toolbar (with blocker) is still the best I have seen. Free @ googles site.

In my opinion Adaware is still the best at getting rid of the known programs that are causing most of the popups. Free version along with professional versions @ Lavasofts site.

Pop ups what a pain. Here is one that works pretty well for me you might try. I have not had any problem with it blocking my mail. Easy to by-pass and it will let you know when it has blocked it you want it to. It will block somethings you would like to get through but once you get used to it simply hold down the ctrl key and that pop up will open. Let the ctrl key up and it is running again.

Good luck, isn't freedom great!!!!!!!

The best Free pop up blocker I have used is EMS Free surfer mk II. you can download a version at www.WebAttack.com... type in "free surfer" ... works great. Only thing.... it sometimes blocks forums... so you can't use it here... but for surfing the web it works great.
